Oh for crying out loud! I just had a cup of tea and realised I have not updated this since you last visited... You would not believe that my hands were chopped off and I was waiting for bionic ones. Whenever will they invent electricity!.

I am flat out with an awfully big adventure, a ticking crocodile, just generally being a nuisance to every man and his dog, my day is a magical flight from the second I am woken by murderous Teletubbies to sun down and beyond. I am so tired. but who cares.

I absolutely, positively promise I will make more of an effort to blog more often. Well, I'll try. Don't hold your breath though, you're likely to turn blue..

Its good to know that half way through January the temprature is still not too low, This time last year it was frequently below -15 but it seems much warmer this year....so far anyway.

we went to Gothenburg to visit the volvo design centre, and a few of us presented our truck projects, there was 80+ people their which is scary.
If any of you plan to visit Sweden then you should try to fit in a trip to Gothenburg. Hotels are cheap and the shops and nightlife is really cool.
it feels much more European than the rest of Sweden too.

i went to ica maxi tody and bought a rug. its brown and fluffy and i can sit on it.

the sun came out so everyone is a bit more happy, it makes a big difference when we get sunshine.

the vw sketch project is nearing completion, this week will be mainly dedicated to presentation boards and sketches.

as you can see the river is completely frozen over.
people have been riding snow mobiles and bikes down it.
you can see the footprints acroos the river if you look closely.

the roads are completely white over, the ice is about 10cm thick so even when it rains you dont see the ground. i miss green grass.

when the sun is out it is low, this means its always glaring in your eyes.sunglasses are essential.

its been a long time

its been a while since last update, busy christmas and all.

a pleasant christmas and holiday break over the new year was stopped abruptly as i climbed down the gangway from the plane back here in umea, it was -16c.

the week has gradually got warmer, upto 3c yesterday but the snow is stockpiling at the side of the road.

demian (our tutor) took us for a beer after the volvo presentation. he was pleased with our work and he said volvo were also happy with our projects.

i think we start clay modelling on monday which will be a welcome change from the intensive sketching of the last few weeks.

expect to see more pix when i get round to uploading them.

no more school for 2005

thats it. no more school for this year.

i still have some project work to do over christmas, but its not too bad.

the school christmas party (yes this school does spend a lot of time hosting parties) was last week and here you can see pip making snow angels in the -8 degrees snow. yes of course he was bladdered.

it was lucia day today which is a swedish tradition about a saint bringing light here from italy to bless the crops (or similar). we had children visiting the school to sing to us and they had candles in their hair.

the river has completely frozen over, and we will be walking accross it by mid february

the mornings have been giving crazy sunrises recently (when i say morning, it is nearer lunchtime).

the rain on saturday put a layer of ice down about an inch thick which is slippery, like a snake.

this week it was the big party at school to celebrate the opening of our big shiny new building.
the event was well covered in the media and we had a visit from the minister for education, who said it was all top shit.

the temprature was a real surprise when i landed back here on wednesday, a cold gust of -8 greeted me.

the days are starting to get really short too, the sun is setting at 2.20, its really dark by 3.20.

the proper snow is not here yet but the constant low temprature and dry atmosphere make me think its not far away.

graduation went well on tuesday, i managed to get my extra ticket by pestering the university registry staff. i know other people had the same problems, it seems the university had lots of spares and was just being a bitch.
After the ceremony emma, sheilagh, alan and myself went for lunch at lounge68 which was very good, two bottles of wine and a few staropramens later i delivered the parents to the train station so they could sit with the other old drunks on the train to manchester.

tuesday evening was a good night out too. it was good to see all the old boys (and girls) from yesteryear.

the halloween party on friday was very good, the music from messers Ruszkowski and Shaw was astounding, even if i do say so myself. i am glad to say that all the requests for a lower volume and trance music were completely disregarded, and the eclectic indie/cheese mix prevailed.

the set included the likes of;

the stone roses,
joy division,
new order,
the prodigy,
the chemical brothers,
and a selection of disco tunes from michael jackson to ray parker jr (thats right, ghostbusters)

i awoke in the 1930s this morning, well it seems like it when everything is black and white outside. or varying shades of 'silent and grey'.

we went to a party at pips last night, but a few of us peeled off before the rest of the gang went to a pub. we decided kebabtalrik was a much better choice. hence the onion breath today.

its snowwed all day, the temp went down to about -8 last night and it is zero now.
the jcb went through the prison yard with a blade on the front but it didnt seem to be working very well as the snow remained below it.

we (a few transportarians) went out for a beer to the bishops arms with allan from volvo trucks yesterday.
its not cheap to drink in town so filip kindly supplied vodka for the pre-bishops drinks, and we were therefore more merry.

its -2*C outside now and we are expecting snow on sunday.
i am slowly prograssing with the truck project but i would like to get some good ideas before diving into the sketchwork.

it was nice to go home for a short while, but i am back in sweden now. i forgot how cold it was here.
its getting dark earlier too.

we went on a field trip yesterday to visit some trucks, which was nice, but not as nice as the surprised look on everyones faces when me and raj produced hot mcdonalds cheesburgers which we bought when the rest of the group was busy fighting for seats for the jouney home.
we were VERY proud of ourselves for not sharing them too.

sorry about the delay in updates its been a busy few weeks.

we had a sketch project lasting two weeks finishing last friday, many students needed to stay at school through the night to get finished. but i managed ok.

after the busy project we saw fit to reward ourselves by enjoying a pizza at alidhems only pizza restaurante'. i can recommend the mexicana its good.verygood.

here is a pic of what must be either a very bizarre sunset (the sun was setting in the opposite direction) or the northern lights looking very fine indeed.

then it was the school cocktail party.

50krowns for a beer and some food. not bad.

last nights screening of lockstock at earls went down well, as did the haribo selection from the konsum.

fridays party in the department was a good show too. for those who can remember it.
raj did make it home, slowly but surely and his cuts and bruises from the bike accident will heal.

our homework for today was to produce a dvd cover for our portfolio in indesign.
i just did mine now.

the bike is all fixed up, and Earl did his too.

the sun is hot today, but as usual their is a chill in the air. you can see the sun from the prison yard;

and i have a third photo for today here;

the truth is, that the sun was so hot, it burned the monsters shadow on to my wall. oh yes it was a scary monster too.

Rubber band racer

So this week we spent our time creating rubber band powered cars to race on friday.

yipee

the project was multi disciplinary and all first years and some year 2 students were involved.
(st)Peter oversaw the project and was very good at avoiding Hannes' camera.

we did not win but ran good races coming second in speed and i think third on endurance.

the local tv station came and filmed us as we took over the bike path near the river.

next week we have the workshop inductions and then i think we get stuck in to our first project.

i just ordered my kloss pc. the nice people at icubes advised me on a suitable graphics card, and the faultless operation at overclock means i will get it in the morning.

maybe all this pleasantness will get me some future pc mods cheap!. lol

so i need to build a new pc to take to sweden. something that will run studiomax, photoshop and alias and i can ship without selling my kidneys.

was looking at the baby kloss but maybe the graphics card will limit it.

the biostar is as good if not better for performance, but it does lack in other features.

i will research the kloss graphics card issue more before deciding.

i had a good chat with DJT regarding the university project, he is on the case now.

the road trip and the book idea

I was browsing the internet and my desire to participate in one of those for-charity road trips is gathering momentum.

as soon as i get my umea timetable i can plan my availability. i am liking the look of the monopoly road trip; http://www.monopolyroadtrip.com/index.html but it is early stages still.

i also want to make a book.
it would be picture based, but again still no idea about content.

i want to be published !! it makes me sound so much more clever.

also thanks to those nice people at wacom for supporting me and giving me an intuosA4 to use in Sweden.
